'A' Member's Appreciation
By Bill Brown
It's always been a dream of mine to own a Model 'A' . I recall quite vividly my father's 1929 pickup. In fact, I got my first kiss in that truck! Today I got my mail and found my "Wire Wheel" newsletter. This reminded me that I must write an article for our club. Let me start by saying I belonged and belong to different clubs and associations in the past and still do. I've served on the board of directors and as staff photographer. But this isn't about me, it's about the people that helped me out and continue to do so. I will do my best to mention all those who did, so please excuse me if I have left anyone out.
I must start with Jim Nagy, this guy is something, he's been there every inch of the way with enthusiasm and a helping hand. Along with his experience, which I have none in owning this Model 'A' . Anywhere from getting my carburetor working properly to getting my turn signals and brake lights working, (along with Norm Gannon), to re-attaching my muffler after Hoppy welded it and straightened it out to where it should be. Jim re-did my gas line, and that was after Nick Powers made a new one at a moment's notice. Don Conklin helped solder a pin hole in the float of my carburetor after pulling it apart and spending hours getting the car to run. Oh, I must mention, Jim pointed things out that I needed to do as he took notes. I called for the parts the next day as I was eager to get this car up and running.
So here's the list of guys, to the best of my recollection, Jim Nagy, Don Conklin, Norm Gannon, Nick Powers, Gary Will, Hoppy Hopkins, Pete Fenger, Ron Miller, John Borycki. More importantly, my dear wife Sue, for putting up with the gas fumes in the garage and oil in the driveway. Yikes! I'm sure you guys can relate to that. I must say thank-you all deeply for helping me get my 1930 Tudor road worthy. It all means alot to me and I am proud to be a member of this club! The car is not totally complete yet but, like Jim says, "one has to stay on it! " Thank you all! from Bill Brown and his wife Sue...(she's my rock!) ~ Peace.
